I found my passion for photography in college while I was studying interior design at LSU. I was taking various design courses and felt like I was just "going through the motions" with no real focus or joy in what I was doing. I enrolled in a Beginning Photography class as a sophomore and from the moment I took my first roll of film and stepped into the darkroom to make the image, I was hooked! I loved everything about photography-- framing my subject, choosing when to release the shutter, the sound of the film sliding perfectly into place on the reel, the smell of the chemicals, watching the image emerge from a blank sheet of paper. I was utterly fascinated by the entire process.
I changed my major and dove right in. After graduating, I met and married a wonderful man with two sons, Jarod and Roman, who were a constant source of inspiration for my work in portraiture. The following year I opened my own photography studio and art gallery. My partner and I had a fabulous space in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge. We were energized and excited as artists, to be right there in the cusp of the exciting revitalization of downtown Baton Rouge. I had our son, Jude, just a few years later, which further deepened my commitment and joy of photographing people. For the past 10 years I have shared a co-working studio space with a few other photographers. I met Jennie a few years ago and we partnered to form Ashford Halley. Our studio is located in the heart of Mid City in Baton Rouge.
I am super focused and a bit of a perfectionist as an artist, but I feel this works out well for direction and getting good results, as a photographer. I enjoy meeting new people, all art mediums, coffee, wine and good food...not necessarily in that order ;) I look forward to creating beautiful photographs for you!
It's so sad that this is the most recent pic that I have of all of us together! Jarod is an army ranger stationed in Seattle so we don't get to see him very often. I had to take advantage of all of us being together at the same time and not worry about what we were wearing! From left to right - Roman (27), Kevin, Jude (13), me, and Jarod (30)
My fur babies! Top row, left to right - Oscar, Felix and Ollie. They are all rescues and we love them so much!
Jarod and Roman when they were little. Roman is the one in the speedo :)
This is one of my all time favorite pictures of Jude. It hangs in my kitchen so I see it every day. Those cheeks!
